2026 Ford Explorer
If you’ve got a big family, and you’re in the market for a new SUV, you should check out the 2026 Ford Explorer, a three-row SUV that brings a combination of performance and comfort that few three-row SUVs can match. Spacious enough for growing families, and capable enough for weekend adventures, the latest Explorer builds upon Ford's reputation for versatility while introducing expanded technology and the all-new Tremor model. With seating for up to 7, available Intelligent 4WD, and impressive towing capability, the Explorer remains one of the most complete SUVs in its class.
Trim Levels
The lineup begins with Active, available in multiple configurations that establish a strong foundation. Even entry-level models include a 13.2-in touchscreen, a 12.3-in digital instrument cluster, Ford Digital Experience, tri-zone climate control, and Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+. Higher Active configurations add heated front seats, a power liftgate, Active Noise Cancellation, and additional convenience features. ST-Line introduces a sportier personality through unique exterior styling, blacked-out trim, red interior stitching, 20-in wheels, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 10-speaker B&O® audio system. New for 2026, Tremor expands the Explorer's capability beyond paved roads. Standard all-terrain tires, underbody protection, tow hooks, unique suspension tuning, and a TORSEN® limited-slip rear differential make it the most adventurous Explorer in the lineup. ST focuses on performance with aggressive styling and Ford's powerful twin-turbocharged V6. Platinum delivers the most luxurious Explorer experience through premium materials, upscale finishes, advanced driver-assistance technologies, and available multicontour seating.
Powertrain
Most Explorer models are powered by a turbocharged 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4 producing 300 hp and 310 lbs.-ft. of torque. Paired with a responsive 10-speed automatic transmission, the engine delivers strong acceleration and everyday efficiency. ST and select Tremor models upgrade to a 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 generating 385 hp and 415 lbs.-ft. of torque. Properly equipped, the Explorer can tow up to 5,000 lbs.
Performance
The Explorer benefits from rear-wheel-drive-based architecture that helps create balanced handling and confident road manners. Available Intelligent 4WD enhances traction during rain, snow, and changing road conditions. The new Tremor model broadens capability with off-road hardware and trail-focused engineering, while ST models deliver stronger acceleration and a more engaging driving experience than many competitors in the three-row SUV segment.
Interior
Inside, the Explorer combines flexibility with comfort. Three rows provide seating for up to 7 passengers, while available second-row captain's chairs improve comfort and simplify access to the third row. Cargo capacity reaches an impressive 85.8 cu. ft. behind the first row, providing ample room for luggage, sporting equipment, and family gear. Higher trims introduce ActiveX® and leather-trimmed seating surfaces, multicontour front seats with Active Motion®, heated second-row seating, ambient lighting, and additional sound insulation.
Technology
A standard 13.2-in touchscreen anchors Ford Digital Experience, integrating Google Maps, Google Assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay®, and Android Auto™ functionality. A 12.3-in digital instrument cluster keeps key vehicle information directly within the driver's view. Available BlueCruise® hands-free highway driving, a 360-degree camera system, premium B&O® audio, 5G connectivity, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability position the Explorer among the most technologically advanced SUVs available today.
Safety Features
Every 2026 Explorer includes Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+ technology. Standard features include Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Coverage, Intersection Assist, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Evasive Steering Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, and Speed Sign Recognition. Higher trims add Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist 2.0 features, including a 360-degree camera, Reverse Brake Assist, Predictive Speed Assist, front parking sensors, and additional driver-assistance technologies that help increase confidence during daily commutes, family road trips, and towing.
